In our family, it is a long-standing tradition that during Easter, we all go “home” and spend the weekend together celebrating the holiday with an egg hunt, big elaborate dinners, and of course, church. This year home was my grandmother’s house in Houston, and we all took a long vacation to visit and catch up. One of the best parts of hanging out at Grandma’s house is the neighbors. We have developed strong friendships with everyone on the street, and no matter how long we are away, it always feels like home.
This year, a long-awaited dream came true for me right before we left town: a camera lens that I have been saving for finally arrived! Of course, this meant that I had to test it out on anyone who would stand still long enough for me to snap a photo! Saturday evening during one of our late-night talks I asked our sweet neighbor Sue if I could borrow her grandson for an impromptu photo shoot the following day. In years past I had photographed her and her husband, along with their two boys, but we had never been able to coordinate a time for me to get her daughter, son-in-law, and grandson in front of my lens…so this photo shoot was a long time in the making!
Sunday afternoon finally arrived and we set up shop in their scenic back yard. Baby Archer was an absolutely perfect little model! Since it was Easter, we grabbed a basket and some colorful plastic eggs for him to play with, then just sat back and let him explore.
Children’s portraits are always such a joy for me to be able to photograph! Each stage brings something new, especially during that first year of life. These little ones grow and develop so fast, and I am so thankful that families invite me to be a part of it all.
As for this very special Easter Sunday portrait session, Archer could not have been more perfect, and I have to say thank you one more time to Sue and Phil for letting me invade their home and their yard; and to Jordan and Bobby for loaning me their sweet little boy; and of course to Archer for posing and playing along with our little game.
